Lamendin technique, developed about 10 years ago, to help identify the remains of military pilots killed in crashes and others while working for the Joint POW-MIA Accounting Command in Hawaii. The method has been touted by its developers as “simple” and “easy to use.” It requires minimal equipment: a pair of calipers for measurements of the teeth and a light table for viewing the transparency o...

Biology is going through a revolution. The genome sequencing projects that were initiated in the 1980’s and undertaken in the 1990’s have provided for the first time systematic inventories of the components of biological systems. Technological innovation is producing ever more detailed measurements on the functioning of these components and their interactions. The Internet has opened possibilit...

This paper considers the problem of computing certain performance parameters of stochastic networks that have Markovian routing but are not otherwise Jackson networks. A scheme using this model for approximating address-based routing is described. The method relies on generalizing the traffic equation to special subsets of the flows in the network.
